Best Brunch in Park City

Robin and I have been visiting Park City, Utah for the past ten years.  Specifically, we love to come to Park City every year to see the Sundance Film Festival, to enjoy great food, and to ski.  Park City is thought of as a ski town, but it is also a foodie town. We own a timeshare in the Canyons Resort.  Surprisingly, it is a four bedroom premier unit that is 2400 square feet, a ski-on, ski-off location at the base of Canyons.

While we have all the amenities of home, we do get out regularly to eat at the local restaurants.  Many of our favorite restaurants serve Sunday Brunch.  This post will give you the full low-down on the Best Restaurants in Park City, especially, those serving brunch. You will probably be tempted to try to fit in two brunches on the next Sunday you visit!

From Kimball Junction near Park City, after heading east for 10 miles on I-80, the arrival at the Lodge at Blue Sky follows a gradual unfolding of the Uinta Mountain foothills.  The trip ends with a slow, two miles, switch-backed crawl up to the lodge and restaurant from the main gate. What does Conde Nast Think of the Lodge at Blue Sky?

Alex Postman of Conde Nast recently reviewed this place in 2023 and is also a fan. He said:

“The lodge has an incredible backstory. The Lodge anchors a 3,500-acre piece of land owned by Mike and Barb Phillips, a California couple who made their bones in high-end shopping centers and fell in love with this epic swath, with its 35 miles of rivers, streams and high alpine lakes. Barb oversees Blue Sky’s ranch and Saving Gracie’s Farm at the bottom of the hill below the hotel, a refuge for more than a dozen rescued Thoroughbreds and Mustangs, along with a few cows and at least 30 other horses that form the basis for the property’s Natural Horsemanship riding program”.

What is Yuta?

Yuta is the local Indian word for “people at the mountain top”.  The restaurant menu reflects the confluence of the three cultures that worked to expand the Western railroads: Chinese, Spanish, and Native American. Chef Galen Zammara (formerly of New York City’s Mas Farmhouse) relocated here to shape a “modern mountain” menu based around western game (bison, venison, fish) and seasonal produce, incorporating flavors and ingredients from all three of those cultures.

Yuta, a modern restaurant, truly has great service and good food.  Out waiter was very friendly and anxious to tell us about the backstory of the lodge.  The brunch at the YUTA is exceptional, focused around their normal breakfast offerings.  Specialties included their yogurt and granola parfaits with apricot, blackberries, and pomegranate seeds. Furthermore, pastry chef and Bouchon Bakery alum Catherine Balken’s sinfully good cinnamon rolls are always a top hit.

Their signature cocktail is the Horse Thief cocktail, whose proceeds support Barb Philipps’ Saving Gracie Foundation, made from Casamigos Tequila, High West Campfire Scotch Blend Whisky, chartreuse, inger syrup, muddled blackberries, and lime. YUTA serves Rocky Mountain craft brews and whiskies (including an unusual oat whisky) from High West Distillery just a mile down the hill. (It’s well worth a visit to the blending and tasting rooms).”

Whether dining on the outdoor seating patios in the warmer months, or enjoying the rustic interior with glass walls, the extraordinary view of Main Street can’t be missed.

What is Grappa?

Nothing could be more foreign to the American palate than grappa, the Northern Italian brandy distilled from the grape skins, stems,  and seeds left over from wine making (what the French produce as marc).  By tradition, a poor man’s drink, grappa can pistol-whip the palate of the neophyte.  Rustic, often fiery, it smells of hay, Earth and God knows what else.

Today, top winemakers and distillers from all over Italy artfully craft their grappa, often distilling them from a single grape variety, or even a single variety from a single designated vineyard.

Some are aged in wood anywhere from six months to a year.  The result is a smoother, more insinuating product that can be downright elegant, while still retaining the spirit’s primary characteristics.  Grappa has an intensity, a pristine quality, and an underlying simplicity.  Grappa is strong, but it leaves the taste buds refreshed.
