| Happy Leap Day Whew, where did the month go? Today, February 29, 2024, is the last day of the month. Thank goodness for Leap Year. I just completed the largest post I have ever written; 100+ Must Visit Destinations for Couples [2024]. It took all week to write. it contains over 100+ links with descriptions of the places we have visited or plan to visit. Please check it out. I really would like to hear your feedback. It is a very important article for the blog. Why did I write such an enormous article for the Blog? Great Question. This is the 100th post going up on the blog. Yes, I finally made it. It is a big milestone. So, I figured I needed to do something to celebrate, and the 100 number sounded good. Oh well, I never thought it would be so much work. But I hope you enjoy it. Fundamentally it is a great index with descriptions of everything on the blog. It should be much easier for people to find things on the blog. It is also a good history of all the travel we have done over the past 2 1/2 years. Please let me know what you think. We are dying for some feedback. So, how are we doing? As you may recall from our post in December, Robin had a fall on Christmas Eve and ended up with a few broken bones in her feet and her leg. Fortunately, her recovery has been going well enough that we were able to make two trips in January and continue the big trip to Hawaii in February. She is feeling much better, and she even went out for a walk on the beach today. I, on the other hand, had a bad bout with back pain this month. When I went to the doctor, they incorrectly thought it might be related to a kidney issue and sent me over to the ER. Fortunately, the ER doc said it was just a related back issue. He also said I was very dehydrated, (related to this insane weight-loss diet that we are both on). So, he gave me some fluids and sent me home. I am doing fine now, I have lost 13 lbs. in a week and 1/2, but it sure hasn’t been much fun. New Posts in February In addition to the new 100th monster post, we were able to submit two other posts this month. The two additional posts that we published this month are Small Group Travel Planning and Bonita Springs Airport. They are related. You can follow any of the links to read the posts, but here is a short description of this month’s feature story, Small Group Travel Planning as the tie-in to the Bonita Springs Airport. Small Group Travel Planning Our post “Key West for Couples” gave us an incentive in January to travel to Key West with 6 other couples. As a result, we got to enjoy the town with the “Gang of 14”, as we christened the group. However, I think most of us realized that we hadn’t done a great job of planning the group activities as well as coordinating arrivals, etc. Fundamentally, getting fourteen people to move in the same direction is practically impossible, good luck. So, while we were in Park City on our next, albeit smaller, group travel, we discussed what we needed to do to be better small group travel planners. One of my buddies, Bob Shortle, suggested that I should document our conclusions in a post. So that became post # 98: Small group Travel Planning. Bonita Springs Airport Now, at about the same time a different group of friends began talking about what we call a “Great South Trip,” where we gather a large group of people somewhere where it is warm in the middle of winter. One of the parties had a winter place in Bonita Springs that became a logical meeting place for a GST next year. Somehow, I got the task of finding a place for the rest of us to stay which became for me a lesson in how to book VBRO. I quickly learned that the price they post is nowhere close to the actual cost to rent the place. That is a whole other story that we will document in a new post. Anyway, to make the story short, I was reminded that one of the issues we encountered on other trips was coordinating flight arrivals. This was going to be particularly important on this next trip since the owner was very concerned about how many cars we would end up at the house. Since not too many of the crowd had ever been to Bonita Springs, I thought it might help to get an article out about where they should fly into. We will see if that helps address issue #1. However, I am sure we will encounter a few more in doing this small group travel planning for a group that will exceed the size of the previous gang of 14. Next Month We are staying put here next month. March is TPC month here in Ponte Vedra Beach and my daughter, her husband, and grandkids are coming for a visit. In addition, Robin’s daughter and grandchildren will also be visiting. It is also time to work on the taxes. So, there are no specific plans on what might be coming out. We just want to wish everyone good health and hopefully enjoy better weather. |
