Welcome to our twenty-second monthly newsletter. We have kept our promise of only one newsletter a month.
We just got back from a short four-day trip to Charleston.
Some new restaurants exist in the Deep South’s #1 foodie city. Okay, New Orleans may challenge. But since Charleston is closer to our home, we are going with Charleston. Anyway, we will be writing up our visit to Charleston next month. In the meantime, check out our Deep South and Best Restaurants posts for more details about the new restaurant, Marbled & Fin.
Happy Halloween – Spooky Houses in St. Augustine
Here in Florida, the Fall is setting in, and two things come to mind: football and Halloween. While none of Florida’s big three College teams (Florida, Florida State, and Miami) have had much to celebrate in recent years, at least this year (2024), Miami is on top. With Halloween, we also get the annual Florida/Georgia game here in Jacksonville next weekend, and unfortunately, we have learned what to expect.
With Halloween coming up next Thursday, it is the perfect time to check out our post on the Haunted Houses in St. Augustine, Florida. If you haven’t already seen it, please do.
One of the more haunted places is the Castillo de San Marcos, a National Monument in the heart of St. Augustine. While several ghosts hang out here, one of the more famous is the ghost of Osceola, a Native American leader who was imprisoned there along with 200 of his men during the Second Seminole War (1835-1842). While he died in the Castillo, he is fondly remembered today by the Florida State Seminole football team, as he starts each of their home games by riding a horse to the 50-yard line and throwing a flaming spear into the ground in the direction of the visiting team. Unfortunately, this hasn’t helped this year, as their current record is one win and six losses, and tonight they play undefeated Miami.
Passports
Last month, I told you we would be updating our passport post to explain the new process for renewing your passport online. I received some positive feedback from one of our readers about how the process worked, and they got their new passports rather quickly. Unfortunately, I am still researching the process and have not yet updated the post. Hopefully, we will get it out before Thanksgiving.
Significant Changes in the Future
Finally, I want to inform you about a significant change that we are planning for the future of our website, CosGuide4travel.com. We have been getting quite a few messages from professional marketing firms that while they believe we have some great content on our website, we need some changes to make it more searchable on Google and other search engines. We appreciate you, our loyal followers. However, if we want to achieve our mission to help educate more people about the wonderful world of travel, we realize we need to expand our reach to more interested travelers. Therefore, with the assistance of a professional web-oriented marketing firm, we will be restructuring the website. The work will take a few months, and we expect to have the new website ready shortly after the first of the year.
In the meantime, we will maintain and update the current website and keep you informed of our travels. The monthly newsletter will also continue to be published. If you enjoy the website and the newsletter, let us know. We greatly appreciate your feedback.
Next Month We will be back on the road again in November, making our annual pilgrimage to Los Cabos, our favorite place in Mexico. We may also attempt to get our golf games back in shape.
