Etihad Airways 777 Business Class and Emirates Airlines Comparison

Etihad Airways and Emirates Airlines are both government-owned airlines based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), but they are owned by different emirates.

  • Emirates was founded in 1985 and is owned by the government of Dubai. It operates out of Dubai International Airport (DXB) and has a larger fleet (around 270 aircraft) and more destinations (161 worldwide).
  • Etihad was founded in 2003 and is owned by the government of Abu Dhabi. It operates out of Zayed International Airport (AUH) and has a smaller fleet (around 102 aircraft) and fewer destinations (75 worldwide).

Both Etihad Airways and Emirates Airlines offer loyalty programs that reward frequent travelers with miles, upgrades, and exclusive perks. Despite their similarities, they compete rather than collaborate, and a merger between them is unlikely due to the rivalry between the two emirates. More on this later.

Etihad Business Class 777 Business Class JFK to Abu Dhabi

Etihad Business Class 777 Business Class JFK to Abu Dhabi is a great way to  travel. The service, food and lay down seats are wonderful. Robin actually slept the whole way and I needed to wake her up for  breakfast.  The Etihad Business Class Price can be as much as 5X the cost of economy, but we got our tickets for only a little more than 2X.  The Etihad Business Class Price is a lot better than First Class which can be as much as 10X the cost of economy.  We didn’t mind paying the 2X cost as the service, the food and the comfortable lay down seats were all worth the extra price. We also got to use the Etihad Airways JFK Lounge and the Etihad Lounge in Abu Dhabi on our connecting next day flight to Mumbai.  Given all the places that Etihad flies in Asia, connecting with Etihad 777 Business Class with a free layover in Abu Dhabi is a great deal.

Uncover the Rich History of the UAE

As you delve deeper into the rich history of the UAE, you’ll come to appreciate the cultural tapestry that has shaped the emirate into the vibrant city it is today. But amidst tales of ancient civilizations and traditions, the modern city and its awe-inspiring architecture also stand as a testament to the progressive spirit of this dynamic metropolis.
The region has experienced centuries of change in terms of industry and influence, and in recent years oil and gas brought incredible prosperity. It was in 1958 that the first oil find was discovered under an old pearling bed in the Gulf and the first cargo of crude oil was exported from Abu Dhabi in 1962.

Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan

Four years later, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan was appointed as ruler of Abu Dhabi and became the driving force behind the formation of the United Arab Emirates in 1971. This brought together the seven separate emirates into one country. It is through his wisdom, as an enlightened ruler, a proud nation, and strong economy have been established.

Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan is strongly remembered as many of the public facilities (the airport, the large mosque, the seaport, bridges, roads, the nation museum, etc.) are named for him. He is the founder of the UAE and is thought of in many ways as the George Washington of the UAE.

Cultural and Economic Factors: How far from Abu Dhabi to Dubai

You ask, “How far from Abu Dhabi to Dubai?” In terms of miles, it is only a little over an hour to drive, however, there are many differences between the two cities.
How far from Abu Dhabi to Dubai
Abu Dhabi, unlike its neighboring Emirate Dubai, has a highly structured approach to growth.  Dubai has taken a much more laissez-faire approach, where as Abu Dhabi’s growth is well planned.
Interestingly, the Cultural and economic policy in Abu Dhabi is largely subsumed to the so-called Vision 2030 Master Plan. Its foremost declared aim is to promote “The Emirate as a sustainable, diversified, high-value-added economy that encourages enterprises and entrepreneurships and is well integrated in the global economy leading to better opportunities for all.”
The plan calls for less dependency on oil revenues, and a broadening of the economy, based primarily on tourism.  Despite being much smaller than other Middle Eastern countries, the Emirate seeks to be the leading Arabic Capital in the region. Recent 2025 visit by USA President Trump, helped support that notion. In addition, the Disney Organization has plans to build a new Disney World in the emirate, more below.

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi is one of the largest mosques in the world, but it is not the largest. The largest mosque in the world is Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, however, is renowned for its stunning architecture and can accommodate around 40,000 worshippers. Its grand white structure and intricate design elements make it a major landmark and a must-visit site.

Formerly known as the Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental, it is not just a hotel; it’s a symbol of luxury and a key landmark in the emirate’s evolution as a world-class tourism destination. Room rates are expensive, well over one thousand dollars a night.  However, a simple walk through the hotel was extraordinary as the pictures show.

Abu Dhabi Hilton & Conrad Abu Dhabi Hotels

If you can’t afford to stay at the Mandarin Oriental, formerly the Presidential Palace, then you might consider staying at one of the five Hilton Hotels in the emirate.  We prefer Hilton Hotels primarily because of our Diamond Status with the hotel chain, but also because these are all rated very highly at the 5-star level. We definitely recommend the Abu Dhabi Hilton and the Conrad Abu Dhabi.  Compared to the Mandarin, pricing here will be between $100 and $300 USD.  Please check them our here:
